Running for a good cause \u2013 that was the motto under which our WGA team took to the starting line when the Vienna Zoo Run opened the gates of Sch\u00f6nbrunn Zoo for a very special evening race. What motivated us most of all was the deeper meaning behind every kilometre.
\nThe net proceeds from the entry fees will be split equally between two wonderful initiatives: Sch\u00f6nbrunn Zoo for species conservation and the Lungenkinder charity. It was a cause close to our hearts to make a difference here. Pulmonary arterial hypertension is still an incurable, fatal disease affecting the pulmonary blood vessels. Without the right medical support, statistics show that the disease leads to death from right-sided heart failure within five years. This makes it all the more important to raise awareness of this issue and actively support research.<\/p>\n
The setting of the zoo at night was simply unique. Despite being fully focused on the race, we naturally couldn\u2019t resist pausing briefly to snap a photo or two of the zoo animals.
\nAfter crossing the finish line, the focus was on relaxing together. Over a well-deserved drink and a hearty meal of chilli con carne and Kaiserschmarrn, we analysed the best moments of the course.
