Office Trip – Bad Vöslau

After a long break, it was time again for our annual autumn trip. On Friday, 23.09.2022, at 7:40 am, our train left for Bad Vöslau. The theme of the excursion was the four Ws (water, wood, wine, wool) of Bad Vöslau.

Arriving in Bad Vöslau, we started – in bright weather – in the Bad Vöslau Schlosspark, where we had a closer look at the newly restored Zaunervases. The vases by the famous 18th century Austrian sculptor Franz Anton Zauner originally stood in front of the Palais Fries on Vienna’s Josephsplatz, today’s Palais Pallavicini. The vases depict the four most important rivers of the four continents.

After a short hike through the Harzberg forest, where we had a closer look at resin extraction, we learned everything about wine production at the Schlossberg winery. From the grape to the wine, Markus Wertek, the son of the Schlossberg winery’s winegrowing family, explained everything worth knowing and we dived into the wine cellar together, where we could taste our way from the grape to the finished product.

After a proper refreshment at the buffet of the Schlossberg wine tavern, we went on to the Kammgarnzentrum, the former site of the Kammgarnfabrik. The company was founded in Bad Vöslau in 1834 and housed numerous spinning and weaving mills. Even after the Second World War, the company was one of the largest employers before it went bankrupt in 1978 due to the structural changes in the textile industry. filed for bankruptcy. Today, a few facilities still bear witness to that time and since 1983, there have mainly been warehouses and offices on the site.

Afterwards we went back to the station, where we started our journey to Vienna together. At Vienna’s Hauptbahnhof, it was time to say goodbye for the weekend.
It was an entirely successful excursion and we are already looking forward to the next joint excursion.
