Office Trip – Linz

On Friday, 22.09.2018, we had our annual WGA autumn excursion. Early in the morning at 6.45am the WGA-team met at Vienna’s main station and a quarter of an hour later the trip to Linz, the capital of Upper Austria, started. The bus took us to the Brucknerhaus, the concert hall designed by Finnish architect Heikki Siren. We continued along the banks of the Danube to the Lentos Art Museum. In the “glass ship” Lentos we could admire modern installations by young Argentinean artists, as well as some paintings by Gustav Klimt, Herbert Bayer, Maria Lassnig, etc. We continued into the city centre to the bridgehead buildings between the main square and the Nibelungen Bridge. From there we walked to the Pöstlingerbahn station. We took the nostalgic train up to the Pöstlingberg and the Pöstlingberg Church. This was the end of an enjoyable morning. At noon we took a break at the Pöstlingberg Schlössl, where we all had lunch together and then enjoyed the rest of the afternoon programme with renewed energy.

We took the train back to the mountain station and walked to the new City Hall and the Ars Electronica Center. We walked along the promenade, past the Linzerie and the Passage to the largest church in Austria, the Maria-Empfängnis-Dom. The architecture of the cathedral is very impressive. At 4.45pm it was time to get back on the bus for the journey home. As always, it was a fun and educational trip with a great day’s programme. A special thank you to everyone who helped with the organisation. An additional thank you also goes to our colleagues who acted as “tour guides” during the guided walks and provided us with lots of interesting information.
