Education and Innovation Campus Gelsenkirchen – Our competition entry at the Hans-Sachs-Haus

Until 8 July 2026, anyone interested can visit the exhibition on the competition ‘2nd Architectural Competition for the Education and Innovation Campus – New Building for the Vocational College for Technology and Design’ at the Hans-Sachs-Haus in Gelsenkirchen. One of the region’s most ambitious school construction projects is taking shape: a new vocational college covering around 42,000 m², which, as a timber-concrete hybrid structure, combines modern learning environments with first-class architecture. We are delighted that our design is part of this exciting architectural dialogue and is currently on display!
Our design is characterised by a transparent, two-storey plinth that functions as an open ‘anchor storey’. The extensive glazing opens the building invitingly towards the city, making the workshops, laboratories and communal areas located there visually accessible and conveying the innovative, technical character directly into the street scene. Above this communicative plinth rise three compact, staggered volumes housing specialist and synergy areas.
On the upper floors, the classrooms and laboratories are arranged along the naturally lit external walls, whilst the circulation cores, ancillary rooms and open learning zones occupy the central communal area. A bridge structure connects the three building volumes and serves as a spacious lounge and break area spanning multiple floors.
Make the most of this opportunity to discover our contribution and other exciting visions for the campus at the Hans-Sachs-Haus until 8 July 2026.
