Our Managing Partner, Harald Oissner, had the opportunity to discuss current challenges and opportunities in the construction industry as part of an exciting interview with Andreas Laser, Editor-in-Chief of the prestigious Architektur Fachmagazin (architecture magazine).
The construction industry is facing significant challenges currently, particularly due to rising costs and difficult financing conditions. Harald Oissner explained the specific impact these factors are having on how we fulfil ambitious projects and how we, as an architecture firm, are responding to them.
Despite the challenges, our goal is to continue delivering high-quality, sustainable projects. Harald Oissner emphasised the importance of innovative approaches to finding solutions that are viable in economic terms. The use of new technologies, especially artificial intelligence (AI), has a major role to play – for example, in troubleshooting plans. Even so, these technologies are only tools that cannot replace our own thinking.
BIM (Building Information Modelling) is also crucial part of how we work. While the time we spend on each service phase has barely changed for decades, the efficiency of our mechanical work has increased significantly. These faster processes let us use the time we’ve saved to think in greater depth about the actual architectural issues and come up with creative solutions. A major advantage for clients is that the associated risks can be kept to a minimum.
In addition, we are actively engaged in strategies such as the circular economy and modular construction, which help to conserve resources and minimise the environmental footprint of our projects. Certifications such as DGNB or ÖGNI have become increasingly important for our work and that of our clients, as banks are increasingly insisting on certifications like this before they will finance construction projects, especially in the area of properties for the rental market. This development shows how important it is to address issues around sustainable buildings that last.
In summary, the interview with Harald Oissner highlights the challenges and opportunities that the construction industry is currently facing. Thanks to continuous innovation, the use of new technologies and a strong focus on quality assurance and sustainability, we are positioned to continue our successful work.
