Los Angeles – trip 2017

From 26.10.-3.11.2017 a delegation from WGA was able to discover the architecture of Los Angeles and look at it in detail. Alongside outstanding cultural buildings like the Getty Center, LACMA, Walt Disney Concert Hall or The Broad, the programme also included hotels, public buildings and educational institutions. There is a unique concentration of major works by some of the most significant architects of the last hundred years in the urban sprawl of the metropolis.
As we followed in the footsteps of Richard Neutra and Rudolf Schindler, we were able to appreciate their pioneering work: To this day the works by these emigrants from Vienna still dominate how the International Style is interpreted in California and therefore also dominate the architecture on the American West Coast. Special tours around the villas of Palm Springs and the famous objects of the Case Study Program gave us an even deeper understanding.
We were able to enjoy the American Way of Life to the full in Venice Beach or in Hollywood.
