The district hospital Lienz presents itself today as a grown structure. The overall object is perceived as an ensemble of different buildings from different historical periods, which is a reply to the cramped location along the slope with several layers staggered in height and depth. Now the existing building of the district hospital Lienz is to be extended. Four additional facilities outside the main building will supplement the Lienz District Hospital: The nursing facility is to be located between the existing residential and nursing home and the district hospital. Administration and EDP are also related to the hospital. Institute building, kindergarten and the adjacent school center form a common educational location.
The design presents itself as a well-ordered ensemble of heterogeneous but related elements. Ventilated constructions are used throughout the exterior. By dispensing with glued connections, the facades are generally recyclable. In addition to the growing building material wood, façade panels made of wood-based materials are used. These give the kindergarten, for example, its playful, colorful appearance.
The internal and external accesses and path connections are effectively disentangled. The separation between emergency patients and self-dispatchers is achieved via two separate entrances. The helicopter landing pad on the roof of the IT building is directly connected to the emergency room via the bed lift and subsequently to the operating area. Our design is based on an effective, simple, use-oriented, and above all sustainable building technology concepts. The focus here is on the entire life cycle of the building. Therefore, in the area of educational institutions or kindergartens, special attention is paid to thermal comfort, air quality, durability as well as to the ongoing economic and ecological aspects of the operation.
