The dormitory at the intersection of Muthgasse and Mooslackengasse is part of a newly developed urban quarter with a high density of scientific and educational facilities. The resulting need for temporary accomodation for students, researchers and academics shall be met by this residential structure.
The site offers an excellent connection regarding traffic and infrastructure. The nearby located railwaystation Heiligenstadt serves as a major city and regional trafficjunction for underground, trams and busses using it. Moreover the place is connected to the city bike network and the recreation area of the Danube canal so the city center, the neighbouring districts and the park-like Danube island can be approached easily.
The residential building consists out of two independent organised parts, a student dormitory providing 308 beds and a fraction with 186 apartments for temporary stays. The long stretched streetfacade is articulated by the cantilevering common rooms together with the concise staircases. At the inner courtyard the building and its outdoor space is connecting to a newly planned parkensemble.
