The project known as “The Holly” at Heiligengeistplatz 4 in Klagenfurt am Wörthersee will be completed in December 2023. The multifunctional building will combine a variety of shops, a police station, a gym and several medical clinics, surgeries and office space all under one roof.
Everyone involved in the project worked very hard to ensure that all of the services were able to keep operating even though the construction work was still in progress. As a result, the food shop located on the ground floor, the dialysis ward on the third floor and the Heiligengeistplatz car park were able to operate for the whole of the construction phase.
From a design perspective, “The Holly” also represents a new modern landmark on the historic Heiligengeistplatz. The uniform white façade brings the previously fragmented structure together and the contemporary design means that the new façade fits perfectly in the current environment.
The evventual users will soon be moving into the new rental space, although some parts of it are already in use. The new police station will be located in the north-eastern part of the building and the Carinthia Psychosocial Therapy Centre will be located on the second floor. Dentists and beauty clinics, psychological and neurological surgeries, offices providing media services, law firms and a gym in the basement will also move into a total of 28 new high-quality spaces. The redesign of “The Holly” has created a place with a variety of new uses and added social value for the residents of Klagenfurt.
